This initiative is geared towards deepening our understanding of the pressures and threats facing Amazonian forests, which serve as crucial carbon sinks and reserves. It emphasizes the vital role played by Indigenous Territories (IT) and Protected Natural Areas (PNA) in safeguarding the Amazon region. Furthermore, it aims to strengthen legal protection for IT, expand PNAs, discourage economic activities that harm the environment, and deter poorly planned public and private investments that contribute to Amazon forest depletion.

The data collected on forest carbon reserves plays a pivotal role in forest management efforts within Indigenous territories across Pilot Action Landscapes (PALs) in Colombia, Ecuador, Brazil, and Peru. This endeavor involves strong partnerships with local, national, and regional Indigenous organizations. Successful practices are systematically documented and shared to facilitate scaling up. The objective is for this valuable information to inform communication strategies and policy advocacy at local, national, and international levels.
